The Academic Advisement Committee provides ongoing academic advisement for all of St. Joseph's College's students. Freshmen are assigned to an adviser from their major interest (if known) or to an exploratory adviser. After a student declares a major at the beginning of sophomore year, the department chair becomes the academic adviser.
Functions
to guide students in planning their college academic programs in terms of their goals
to identify problems and refer students to sources of help on campus
prior to registration, to assist students to select courses for the next term and, after registration, to approve the final program
meet with their advisees during New Student Orientation and at least four times during the first year (they report to the academic dean regarding the progress of their advisees)
