St. Joseph’s College’s education department, in keeping with New York State Standards and Guidelines, prepares students for initial certification in adolescence education with majors in biology, English, chemistry, history, mathematics and Spanish in New York State approved programs.
Both SJC campuses have programs for biology, English, history (for teaching social studies), mathematics and Spanish. Chemistry is offered in Brooklyn.
The programs, grounded in the liberal arts tradition, provide students with a core curriculum and adequate depth and breadth of knowledge in their major field. Close collaboration exists among major departments and the Department of Education.
