New York State CASAC Examination Process
To sit for the Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) examination, an applicant must have a minimum of 350 hours of education and training in the field of alcoholism and substance abuse treatment as well as have a minimum of 300 hours of supervised practical training in an approved work setting. Students who complete the St. Joseph’s certificate in alcoholism and addictions counseling will have satisfied these requirements. Candidates must also document a minimum of three years of supervised full-time experience. Candidates with a master’s degree need only one year of such experience.
