English

From legends such as Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare and Milton to the new voices of Walker, Morrison, Hurston and Momaday, St. Joseph’s College’s Department of English provides a diverse, yet complete literary education. We also provide several courses that polish writing skills, including creative and fiction writing as well as journalism.

Our graduates are versed in American, British and world literature and are prepared for a multitude of careers. Predominantly, graduates focus on teaching at the secondary level, but students have also found various career options through graduate study.

As an English major, you’ll gain the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of literature through our faculty, which is an assortment of accomplished professors who have diverse interests and expertise. SJC offers both a B.A. in English, a concentration in English for child study majors and an English minor.
