Mission Statement
The Graduate Nursing Student Organization (GNSO) seeks to
support the
development of the graduate nursing students of St. Joseph's
College.
The GNSO stands as a link to establish methods of communication
between
the Brooklyn and Long Island campuses, promote scholarly
dialogue and
engage in community outreach and education.
ARTICLE I - NAME
The name of this organization shall be known as: The Graduate Nursing Student Organization
ARTICLE II - PURPOSE
The purpose of the Graduate Nursing Student Organization shall
be to:
1. Assist in the enrichment of the graduate nursing student experience by fostering communication and collaboration among graduate nursing students, faculty and staff within the Department of Nursing, the overall college community and other graduate nursing programs.
2. Serve as a resource to the undergraduate nurses by providing guidance and mentorship.
3. Provide a mechanism for educational and professional networking.
4. Promote and encourage participation in activities at St. Joseph's College.
ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP
Membership into this organization shall be open to all students
in the
graduate nursing course of study of the Brooklyn and Long Island
campuses.
There shall NOT be a membership fee. To help support events,
donations
from members shall be appreciated.
ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS
Section 1. The officers of the organization shall consist of a
President,
Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and a faculty advisor.
Joint leadership
representing both campuses shall be sought.
Section 2. These officers shall be elected at the last meeting
of the
spring semester, by a simple majority vote of the members in
attendance
and in accordance with the constitution and bylaws of the SGA.
Section 3. The length of term of all officers is one year. No
one officer
shall exceed two executive terms in any one office.
Section 4. All officers are expected to attend meetings on a
regular basis.
Attendance at all meetings is required for all officers, unless
the President,
Vice-President, or Faculty Advisor officially excuses the
officer.
Section 5. The officers in attendance shall vote on all
proposals.
ARTICLE V - DUTIES OF THE OFFICERS
Section 1. It shall be the duty of the President to:
a. Serve as the primary contact person for the GNSO.
b. Preside over all meetings, including those of the SGA. If the
President
is not available to do so, he or she will appoint an alternate.
c. Consult with the other officers in organizing events.
d. Oversee the organization in fulfilling its functions and
responsibilities.
e. Submit the annual report for review at the spring meeting.
Section 2. It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to:
a. Assist the president with his/her responsibilities in his/her
absence.
b. Attend all board meetings, including the SGA meetings.
c. Provide input for events and programming.
d. Work collaboratively with other board members.
Section 3. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to:
a. Requisition funds for organizational use from the money
appropriated
to the
organization by St. Joseph's College.
b. Collaborate with other officers to determine how said monies
will be
spent.
c. Keep accurate records of financial transactions.
d. Organize fund raising activities in collaboration with the
officers.
e. Prepare the annual financial statements for publication in
accordance
with the constitution and bylaws of St. Joseph's College and the
SGA.
Section 4. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to:
a. Record and distribute to the GNSO members, faculty advisor
and SGA
minutes of all meetings.
ARTICLE VI - ELECTIONS
Section 1. Time
Officers shall be elected in the spring semester, in accordance
with the
bylaws and constitution of the SGA. The newly elected officers
shall assume
their duties after consulting with the former officers and
without delay.
Section 2. Vote
a. A majority vote shall elect the officers.
b. When there are more than two candidates running for the same
office,
the candidate with the highest number of votes wins the
election.
ARTICLE VII - MEETINGS
Section 1. Standard
There shall be at least two standard business meetings per
semester. The
fall meeting shall be known as the Annual Meeting. At this time,
all officers
shall present the written prior annual report, budget report and the
floor will be open to all new business.
Section 2. Special
Special Meetings may be called to order by the President, or
upon the
request of a majority of members present.
ARTICLE VIII - BUDGET
Section 1. Formulation
At the end of each year the club will discuss the formulation of
the following
year's budget proposal to be presented to the SGA.
Section 2. Maintenance
A majority rule vote by officers of the GNSO will appropriate
monies to
be used for any activities, such as guest speaker presentations
or celebrations.
