Financial Aid Tips

Was the FAFSA form processed to a valid Student Aid Report? If the FAFSA was rejected by the U.S. Department of Education, follow their directions to provide the missing/incomplete information.

Review the information on the Student Aid Report. Did you provide any information that now needs to be corrected or updated? If you sent corrections, you will receive a revised Student Aid Report.

Was the Student Aid Report selected for verification? If so, provide proof of information — signed copies of tax returns, etc. — directly to the school.

Did you receive the financial aid award letter? Do you have any questions?

Read all information sent along with the financial aid award letter. There is a lot of important information in the packet.

If your award letter includes an estimate for a New York State Tuition Assistance Program award, be sure to follow-up directly with TAP to finalize that award.

Investigate the use of student loans, parent loans, tuition payment plans, savings accounts, home equity loans or lines of credit, credit cards, 401(k) and 403(b) retirement plans that allow withdrawals for qualified education expenses.

Congratulate yourself. A college education is a wonderful investment.
