The S.T.R.I.P.E.S. (Students Taking a Role In Positively Empowering Society) Club is a new club to the St. Joseph’s College community for fall 2012.
The club was founded based on recent experiences with the annual Alternative Spring Break trips. In the past, students have helped in Atlanta and along the Gulf Coast of Florida. The April 2012 trip was to Joplin, MO to aid in tornado relief. In Joplin, nine students from the Brooklyn Campus were given the opportunity to help build vegetable gardens at the local elementary school and rebuild homes lost in the EF-5 tornado on May 22, 2011.
The purpose of S.T.R.I.P.E.S. is to provide students with service opportunities within the college and outside of the St. Joseph’s community. It will benefit the students of St. Joseph’s College by giving them an outlet to participate in service activities, expand their horizons to diverse communities, as well as develop a sense of self while helping those in need.
