Barbara Morrell, Ph.D. has been a dedicated faculty member in the College's faculty Department of Social Sciences for almost 30 years. She spearheaded the writing of the criminal justice major, which was approved by New York State in 2006, and currently serves as the chair of the Department of Criminal Justice. She also serves as the faculty moderator of the Criminal Justice Club and Pi Gamma Mu International Social Sciences Honor Society, and is responsible for advising students within the major.
Before coming to St. Joseph's College, Dr. Morrell taught at C.W. Post and Farmingdale State College as well as Illinois Benedictine College. Her published works, all of which appeared in Criminal Justice Research Report, include:
"Rehabilitative Approaches to Corrections Bolstered by Knowledge of Effective Treatment Principles and Firm Public Support"
"Research Examines Impact of Incarceration on Children: More Targeted and Coordinated Reentry Services Needed"
Dr. Morrell has presented nationally along with other research scholars and lawyers advocating for revising laws transferring juveniles to adult court.
Dr. Morrell belongs to several professional organizations, including the American Society of Criminology, the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and the American Sociological Association.
