Dr. Straut teaches "Introduction to the Hebrew Scriptures". He is a retired clergy in The United Methodist Church, having served a 42-year-career as the pastor of churches, an ecumenical executive with the NYC Council of Churches in Brooklyn and a superintendent in the Bishop's Cabinet. Since his retirement in 2001, he has directed the Bishop's Office of post-9/11 ministries and been the minister of mission and social justice at Manhattan's Riverside Church. His higher education has all been at Drew University, where he is currently a Trustee. He received his B.A. degree from the College of Liberal Arts in 1958, his M.Div. in 1962 and D.Min. in 1977, both from the Theological School.
