Stephen J. Rockwell is an associate professor in the Department of Social Sciences, where he is also the coordinator of the American studies program.

Before joining the St. Joseph's College faculty, Dr. Rockwell worked as a senior research analyst at The Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., and as an assistant professor in the political science and public administration programs at the University of Michigan-Flint.

Dr. Rockwell is the co-author (with Peter Woll) of American Government: Competition and Compromise (McGraw-Hill, 2001). He is also co-editor (with Peter Woll) of American Political Ideals and Realities (Longman, 2000).

Dr. Rockwell recently completed his third book, Indian Affairs and the Administrative State in the Nineteenth Century (Cambridge University Press, 2010).
