Karen Russo holds several New York State certifications and licenses and has taught at schools throughout New York, including Queens College and various public elementary schools. She has also provided mentoring and literacy intervention instruction at St. John’s University. Currently an assistant professor in child study at St. Joseph’s College, Dr. Russo specializes in the teaching/learning process and has written many articles and given presentations on the subject.

Dr. Russo has received a number of honors such as the USAA National Collegiate Education Award, Excellence in Research Award, and Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence. She is a member of such groups as the International Reading Association, Phi Delta Kappa and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.

She is involved with two peer-reviewed journals: as an associate editor for Insights on Learning Disabilities and as a consulting editor for Reading Writing Quarterly. In addition, she writes a bi-monthly literacy column for the online magazine, Strategies for Successful Learning. Dr. Russo actively volunteers with Island Harvest and Long Island Blood Services.
