BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, NY – August 17, 2010 – St. Joseph’s College was recently recognized by two prestigious publications as an outstanding college in the region under the category of ‘America’s Best Colleges.’ For the ninth consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report named SJC to the top-tier of the ‘Northern Comprehensive Colleges – Bachelor’s’ category for 2011, while Forbes Magazine ranked the College in its online issue of ‘America’s Best Colleges’ for the third straight year.
“Our commitment to providing an outstanding liberal arts education to a diverse population of students in the New York Metropolitan area continues to be at the forefront of our efforts and is exhibited in our strong freshmen retention rates, continuing dedication to highly personalized instruction and excellent faculty,” said President S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D. “We are pleased to be recognized, once again, by both publications and look forward to receiving future rankings that distinguish us from other institutions.”
With campuses in Brooklyn and Long Island, SJC received a tie ranking of 15 this year by U.S. News & World Report, which bases its annual rankings on graduation and retention rate, faculty resources, selectivity, faculty/student ratio and the assessment of each school from its peers. St. Joseph’s College’s strong freshman retention rate helped secure the institution’s spot in the top-tier, while the College’s continuing dedication to highly personalized instruction is reflected in the 15:1 faculty/student ratio, as well as in the fact that the majority of classes have less than 30 students.
Maintaining its overall high ranking in New York State, St. Joseph’s College offers the lowest tuition of all private colleges on Long Island and is one of the most affordable private institutions in the tri-state area. The criteria for ranking in Forbes was based on the average student debt at graduation, percentage of students graduating in four years and the number of students or faculty who win national competitive awards.
