STARS, a subsidiary of the Campus Ministry at St. Joseph’s College, is a student-run group with a focus on giving back to the community. The Campus Ministry seeks to instill in the life of the College its core values of integrity, service, social and intellectual responsibility and spiritual values.
Make A Difference Day, created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, has invited millions to participate in what has been coined “the nation’s largest day of service – a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.” In 2009, 3 million people cared enough about their communities to volunteer, accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns.
Every year, St. Joseph’s College hosts its annual Make A Difference Day carnival, which includes a fun-filled day with games and prizes, an obstacle course, arts and crafts, and refreshments. For the first time, the College has combined its efforts with the Special Olympics, inviting all Special Olympics athletes and their families to enjoy the event this year.
"We are eager this year to host our annual Make A Difference Day carnival for the athletes of the Special Olympics and their families,” said Joseph Bruno, director of Campus Ministry. “Our hope is to provide an opportunity for those involved to share the gift of life and to experience the joy of fellowship.”
