PATCHOGUE, NY – January 11,2011 – St. Joseph’s College hosted a “Charity of the Game” night with the NHL’s New York Islanders on Thursday, December 16, 2010. Three hundred SJC alumni, students, staff and friends came out to support the College at the Islanders vs. Anaheim Ducks game at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY.
As part of the SJC-themed night, the College’s logo and mission statement beamed across the JumboTron, while a 30-second ad spot geared toward prospective undergraduate students aired during the second intermission. Admissions staffers were also available to talk about programs, degrees and course offerings at the Long Island Campus. The SJC Sharps, an all-female student a capella ensemble, kicked off the night as they sang the national anthem for the crowd of thousands. Throughout the game, Islanders staff sold 50/50 raffles, raising a total of $783 for student scholarships at SJC.
Available at a discounted price for SJC alumni, the price of admission included a pre-game reception, a guided tour of the facility, including a viewing of press boxes and VIP suites, and tickets to the evening’s game.
“It's always special when we can coordinate an event with our alumni and students,” L.I. Campus Director of Alumni Relations Matthew Colson ’02 said. “We look forward to hosting a similar event in the spring with the Long Island Ducks.”
