BROOKLYN, N.Y. – July 10, 2013 – St. Joseph’s College is pleased to announce that it will once again partner with the Fort Greene Strategic Neighborhood Action Partnership (SNAP) to provide free computer classes to local residents that teach them the computer skills they need to secure and hold jobs.
Two six-session long classes entitled, “Computers for Complete Beginners” will start on Wednesday, July 17 with 10 students per class. In these classes, students will learn how to use three different operating systems: Windows 7, Mac OS and Ubuntu 12. By the end of the session, students will have the basic skills necessary to transition into the workforce.
“Once again, St. Joseph’s College is helping us train our adult learners and bring them up to speed for the challenges they face in today’s high-tech world,” said Fort Greene SNAP Director Dr. Georgianna Glose. “With this training, students will be able to access the Internet, use email, apply for jobs and have the formal training they need to succeed.”
Founded in 2000 by Dr. Glose, the mission of Fort Greene SNAP is to provide to low and moderate income residents, in and near Fort Greene, access to gainful employment, further education and quality health care by offering programs in technology, entrepreneurship and life skills. Through its entrepreneurial programs, parenting workshops, lifelong learning initiatives and efforts to promote civic participation, Fort Greene SNAP seeks to enhance the quality of life in Fort Greene for all of its residents.
