Brooklyn Voices Presents David Isay

BROOKLYN, NY – October 3, 2013 - St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Dave Isay, executive director and founder of StoryCorps, will discuss his work Ties That Bind: Stories of Love and Gratitude from the First Ten Years of StoryCorps as part of this fall’s Brooklyn Voices lecture series. This event, created in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore and the Brooklyn Rail, will take place on Monday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium on the College’s Brooklyn Campus.

“David Isay and StoryCorps tell America's story,” said Dr. Richard Greenwald, academic dean at SJC’s Brooklyn Campus. “Ties that Bind details our collective humanity and forces us to pause in our busy lives to listen, and, in that activity, we learn. We are so very pleased that David and Story Corps are coming to St. Joseph's College to share their magic.”

Ties that Bind commemorates the project’s 10-year anniversary with a collection of stories that celebrate the relationships that bring purpose and joy to life, as well as the people who nourish and strengthen individuals. Founded by award-winning documentarian Dave Isay, the StoryCorps project has been collecting oral history interviews with everyday Americans across the country for a decade. These recordings remain the single most important collection of American voices gathered to date. A nationwide celebration of America’s shared humanity and collective identity, StoryCorps captures and defines the stories that connect us.
