St. Joseph’s College is pleased to announce that Congressman Edolphus Towns (D-Williamsburg) has secured a grant for $400,000 that will help purchase new laboratory and computer equipment for the College’s Brooklyn and Long Island campuses. The grant’s funding was approved in the Labor, Health and Education Appropriations Act of 2010 that passed the House last August. The bill was included in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2010, which President Obama signed into law last month.
"St. Joseph's College is profoundly grateful to Congressman Ed Towns for this wonderful grant,” said Sister Elizabeth A. Hill, president of St. Joseph’s College. “It will enable us to provide our students with state-of-the-art technology, thus preparing them for advanced study in the sciences and other disciplines. Congressman Towns has always been a good friend of St. Joseph's, and higher education in general, and we applaud him for this latest effort on our behalf."
“I am proud to support St. Joseph’s College in its efforts to prepare students for careers in science and computer technology,” Representative Towns said. “While many college students do not have access to the tools and resources necessary to compete in a 21st century global economy, St. Joseph’s College is stepping in to fill the void.”
St. Joseph’s will use the funds for science laboratory and computer equipment, interactive smartboards and distance learning classrooms. The equipment will enable one professor to teach a class to students on both campuses, also allowing St. Joseph’s to make the best use of its resources and increase the scope of its offerings to its students.
