SJC Student Veterans Association Named Chapter of the Month

March 02, 2016 LI

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that its Student Veterans Association (SVA) has been named Chapter of the Month for March 2016 by the Student Veterans of America, a coalition of student veteran groups on college campuses around the globe. There are 1,292 chapters nationwide.

“I commend the tireless efforts of the SJC Long Island Student Veterans of America officers, who have built a chapter to be proud of,” said Erin D’Eletto, director of military and veterans services at SJC Long Island and SJC Online. “Their leadership, together with the continued support of the St. Joseph's College community—administrators, faculty, staff and students—has enhanced the student experience and contributed to the academic success of our military and veteran students.”

With more than 230 military-connected students at the College, SJC offers a number of degree programs with flexible schedules, including course offerings at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station in Freeport, SFO Moriches in East Moriches and the Shinnecock Coast Guard Station in Hampton Bays, New York. SJC is also a proud participant of the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) and a core member of the SOCAD-4 management network.

“As a four-year veteran student at SJC and as current president of the SJC SVA Chapter, I'm very honored and proud to see how far our student veterans club has come,” said Richard A. Laureano ’16, U.S. Army - SGT (E5). “Former club leaders and active members have all worked very hard to help our fellow student veterans and to always live up to our club mission. This national award speaks volumes about the impact veteran students have had on higher education and the lasting impact we will have on our communities. One day, student veterans will become our nation’s leaders, as we once were when we led on the front line.”
