Leadership

Welcome to St. Joseph’s College!

In 1916, the Sisters of St. Joseph founded a college with a clear mission and a focus that remains as central to SJC today, 100 years later. Students, whether traditional age or older, undergraduate or graduate, full or part time, receive the highest-quality education within a value centered environment.

An SJC education, regardless of major or field of study, is rooted in a liberal arts foundation and the preparation essential for success in a profession, a career or graduate study. Every graduate of SJC is prepared well for a life characterized by our five pillars: integrity, intellectual and spiritual values, social responsibility and service.

And more important, St. Joseph’s College doesn’t just talk about quality education, we are committed to student success every single day. That is epitomized by the College’s motto: Esse non videri — “To be, not to seem.” It is experienced on both campuses and through our online and off-site programs.

Simply said, SJC is a student-centered college. Students always come first. Helping each and every student reach his or her goals is our primary motivation. As a member of our community of scholars and learners, you will be educated in the classroom by the very best faculty, and supported outside the classroom by the most talented staff.

And every person at SJC is here to serve you. This begins with me. My door is always open to you, and I will always be available to help you to address any issue that might arise, and to support you in achieving the highest level of success. We want you to have a great experience at SJC. But even more, we want you to successfully complete your academic program and earn your degree.

Service is central to our leadership philosophy. The College embraces Servant Leadership, which centers on always focusing on our mission and goals and serving every member of this community. We serve first and then we lead. And we believe that this approach best meets the needs of our community and makes SJC a very special place.

I wish you well in your educational journey. We are honored that you have chosen SJC. We are pleased to have you as a member of our community. Welcome to St. Joseph’s College.

Sincerely,

Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D.
