May 09, 2016

Patchogue and Brooklyn, N.Y. – May 6, 2016 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the addition of a new specialty track in industrial-organizational psychology to its B.A. in Psychology at both its SJC Long Island and SJC Brooklyn campuses.

The concentration was created to allow students to focus their coursework on workplace psychology. Graduates from the program will be able to apply their knowledge to human resources, administration, management, sales and marketing. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers drawing on this area of expertise are expected to be the fastest growing psychology specialization with a projected increase of 52 percent over the next 10 years.

“Industrial-Organizational is the fastest growing career field in psychology, and we are the only college on Long Island currently offering this specialty track at the undergraduate level,” said Dominique Treboux, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Psychology at SJC. “The major will allow psychology students to broaden their area of expertise and, consequently, be more marketable.”

The concentration is designed to provide students with skills in areas such as policy development, employee testing and selection, employee training, and development and analysis of organizations. Examples of required courses include psychology of learning, personality psychology, psychological testing, group dynamics and human resource management.
