SJC Long Island to Sponsor Suffolk County Marathon

October 24, 2016

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is a proud supporter of the 2016 Suffolk County Marathon, which will take place on Sunday, October 30.

As a Silver Star sponsor of the event, SJC will host a hydration station with staff, student, faculty and alumni volunteers at St. John's Greek Church in Blue Point.

This year, the Suffolk County Marathon events include a 26.2-mile marathon, 13.1-mile half marathon and 5K race. All proceeds will benefit local veteran services. In addition, the marathon will have a special veterans race category for all active military and retired veterans, as well as “wounded warrior” and para-olympics components. All veterans and military personnel will receive discounted registration fees.

A post-race Freedom Fest will take place on West Main Street in Patchogue and will feature live music, local craft breweries, award-winning wines, and local food and produce.

The marathon is being planned in conjunction with the Suffolk County Veterans Services Agency, Department of Public Works, Police Department, Fire Rescue and Emergency Services, New York State Department of Parks and Recreation, the Greater Long Island Running Club, local fire departments, civic groups, community organizations, chambers of commerce and elected officials at the Town, County and State levels.
