BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – NOVEMBER 13, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) was recently named to Military Times’ list of Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 rankings. The Military Times Best for Vets distinction recognizes SJC for its commitment to providing opportunities to America’s veterans. Out of 100 U.S. colleges, SJC was ranked No. 46.

“It is a great honor for the College to be recognized by Military Times for the commitment we have to serve our veterans,” said Shannon O’Neill, assistant dean of military and veteran services at SJC. “Veterans bring such richness to the classroom with their leadership, experience and integrity. Their influence has greatly impacted the entire college community.”

For the fifth year, the publication compared each school’s survey answers and data compiled by the U.S. Education Department to decide on the inclusion and rank of each school. Aside from Military Times, the rankings are published in issues of Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times, Marine Corps Times and Military Times EDGE magazine, as well as online at MilitaryTimes.com, ArmyTimes.com, NavyTimes.com, AirForceTimes.com and MarineCorpsTimes.com.

"St. Joseph’s embraces the qualities, carried from our military service, and helps us build upon and amplify these traits,” said Pfc., U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Matthew Burrier ’16. “Everyone from the staff, professors and even the students, work to build each other up to new levels of personal growth that carry us beyond our college experience and back into the real world.”

With more than 230 military-connected students between the two campuses, SJC offers a number of degree programs with flexible course schedules, including offerings at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, the Jones Beach Coast Guard Station in Freeport and the Shinnecock Coast Guard Station in Hampton Bays, New York. On the Long Island Campus, the SJC Student Veterans of America club addresses the interests and experiences of veterans and the issues they encounter after their military service. SJC is a proud participant in the Post-9/11 GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) and a core member of the SOCAD-4 management network.
