College Roasts Beloved Employee
By Jennifer Sarnicola ’04

On February 29, 2008, alumni, students, faculty and staff on the Long Island Campus came together to celebrate the life and achievements of an extraordinary woman during a comedy roast for the dedicated and revered Director of Co-Curricular Programs Marian Russo.

Marian Russo Roast

A long-time employee of the College, Marian was a terrific sport as many of her fellow colleagues that included the dynamic jokesters Professors Andrew Quinn and Paul Ginnetty, our very own Provost, S. Loretta McGrann, current students Mike Myers and Emily Lazio and alumni Erin Towner ’01 and the evening’s Roast Master, Jonathan Chiaramonte ’04, proceeded to tell tales of a woman truly esteemed and adored at the College. “I was truly humbled by the outpouring of affection that was directed my way,” said Marian. “The evening was a true celebration of the spirit of St. Joseph’s College.”

Co-sponsored by the Alumni Association’s Long Island Chapter and the SJC Chapter of Keep A Child Alive, proceeds from the event benefited the endowed scholarship of beloved alumnus Thomas Wendt ’88, as well as Keep A Child Alive, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing life-saving medication, support and orphan care directly to children and families with HIV/AIDS, who can’t afford essential treatment and medical care.

Billy Gonyou, president of Keep A Child Alive said, “While the event did benefit two amazing causes, it touched me to see hundreds of past and present St. Joseph’s College students come together to honor a woman with a heart of gold.”
