St. Joseph’s Continues Annual St. Patrick’s Day Tradition
By Samantha Saines '06

St. Patricks Day Parade March

St. Joseph’s College celebrated another year of green this past St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, 2008 – a day filled with the annual festivities of a pre-parade breakfast and March in the New York City parade.

The morning began as alumni from both the Brooklyn and Long Island campuses gathered together at Connolly’s Restaurant for a traditional Irish breakfast. The event captured alumni of all ages, while current students represented the College at the breakfast as well. This year, alumni from the tri-state area to as far as Arizona attended the event and joined in on the festivities. Many participated in raffles and give-a-ways, a tradition each year the event is held. Irish or not, the fun was felt by all who attended!

“Every year I enjoy going into New York City for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and marching behind the SJC Banner down 5th Avenue,” said Bryan Gill, a 2006 graduate from the Long Island Campus. “The Irish Breakfast at Connolly’s Pub, marching in the Parade and the laughter are reasons of what makes St. Patrick’s Day so great!”

After the breakfast, alumni anxiously lined up for the annual St. Patrick’s Day March down Fifth Avenue. This is always a well-enjoyed experience, as St. Joseph’s College is cheered on when alumni and current students pass down 5th Avenue. In fact, it is not uncommon to hear people from the crowd shouting out their graduation year with pride for their alma mater.

If you could not make it to this year’s parade, keep us in mind for next year. Come celebrate the day and catch up with old classmates. For more information, contact the Brooklyn Alumni Office at 718.636.6882 or email alumni@sjcny.edu. We hope to see you in 2009!
