Brooklyn Campus Facilities-
Originally called St. Joseph’s College for Women, the college opened its doors in the now historic Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn to 12 students. Founded in response to a call for quality higher education for young women of moderate means, the college has been dedicated to academic excellence, pre-professional education and service since its inception.
During World Wars I and II, students held fund-raisers, joined the Red Cross and entertained troops in the neighboring Brooklyn Navy Yard. In 1970, the college became officially known as St. Joseph's College, New York and admitted its first male students. The College’s location in Brooklyn puts it in the center of one of the nation’s most diversified academic and cultural cities. The Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Brooklyn Public Library and the Brooklyn Museum of Art are all minutes away.
With Manhattan just over the bridge, students have quick and easy access to such world-renowned places as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, Madison Square Garden, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. St. Joseph's Brooklyn campus is also home to the Dillon Center, which was founded in 1934 as one of the first college preschools on the East coast. This unique laboratory school provides opportunities for Child Study majors to gain hands-on experience, while offering valuable resources to the community.
The college is in the center of one of the nation’s most diverse
academic communities (there are six colleges and universities within a
two-mile radius). St. Joseph’s offers students access to neighboring
colleges as well as to a growing roster of Brooklyn-based cultural
facilities such as the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the central branch of
the Brooklyn Public Library, the Brooklyn Museum of Art and the
Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
