History Department

Affordable and excellent St. Joseph's College has two campuses. One is Suffolk in Patchogue, the other in Clinton Hill in Brooklyn.

The History Department offers a wide range of survey and specialized courses, all of which emphasize research techniques, critical thinking and analysis. Small classes enable students to sharpen these skills in debates and discussion. The excellence of our program is evidenced in the number of grants, fellowships and assistantships for graduate and professional schools that have been awarded to our majors.

The Department sees it as its mission to give students at St. Joseph's College a clearer view of the broader world and their place in it. To fulfill this mission we offer surveys of American, European and global history; advanced courses in traditional areas such as Colonial America and Medieval Europe; and specialized seminars in topics as diverse as Ethnicity in American Life, France and the New Europe, Modern Japan, The Holocaust, The History of Southern Africa and Ireland since Independence.
