The Child Study Program
Child Study majors prepare to work in preschool, elementary and special education environments. The program is based on a developmental model with a strong grounding in the psychological foundations of good educational practice. The ideal, "First be, then teach," is presented consistently and modeled by professors. The program readies students for graduate work in disciplines other than teaching, such as speech pathology and guidance counseling.
Graduates pursue graduate studies in areas such as Reading, Speech, Psychology, Social Work and Administration. St. Joseph’s reputation, along with its vast network of alumni working in the field, leads to outstanding job placement opportunities. Child Study graduates are in constant demand in tri-state area schools, as well as out-of-state positions.
The coursework, fieldwork and other college and state requirements help you achieve that goal. You are at the center of our interest and concern as we meet with you in the college classrooms and spend time with you in our offices. It is our fervent wish that you should become the best teacher it is in your power to become. |
