We would like to extend the following invitation to SJC faculty members interested in learning more about the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) or conduct an SoTL research project. The CASTL Institute/Conference will be held this year June 4-7 at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
Our supportive institution has provided funding for two faculty members to attend. These individuals will be expected to informally share their experiences with their colleagues at a Faculty Discussion Group Luncheon next semester. The selection process will be in the form of a lottery format.
If you are interested and would like your name added to the selection pool, please email me by April 4. The selection will take place on April 7th and the participants will be notified.

About the Conference:
On behalf of our colleagues at all six institutions* collaborating with us under the auspices of the Carnegie Foundation’s CASTL Leadership Initiative.
We are pleased to invite you to join us at Creighton University for our
2008 National CASTL Institute: Developing Scholars of Teaching and Learning from June 4-7, 2008.
Richard Gale, CASTL Consulting Scholar, has described our institute as “the vanguard campus training program for faculty committed to the scholarly investigation of student learning,” adding that our “work is the future of the scholarship of teaching and learning.”
The 2008 Institute theme, Professional Dispositions and Values, encourages exploration of the attributes, values and habits of mind that allow reflective inquiry. Along with Michele King (Program Manager for both the Institute and the Office for Academic Excellence and Assessment) and the AEA Faculty Fellows, I look forward to welcoming you to Omaha in June, where we are confident you will (re)discover ‘your’ professional dispositions as well as cultivate meaningful connections with other scholars of teaching and learning. |
