PATCHOGUE, NY – FEBRUARY 27, 2006 – Matthew Colson, a St. Joseph’s College graduate in the class of 2002 has accepted a position in the Office of Institutional Advancement as Associate Director of Alumni Relations on the Suffolk Campus of St. Joseph’s College and will begin work during the month of March. Prior to this position, Colson was the Senior Graduate Admissions Counselor and an Academic Advisor for St. Joseph’s College where he was responsible for recruitment and marketing for the Graduate Studies program at the college.

“I am looking forward to working with the alumni to connect or reconnect them to St. Joseph’s College,” said the newly appointed Associate Director of Alumni Relations, Colson. “In my new role I plan to provide meaningful connections and services to the College’s alumni, in order to convey to them that they continue to be valued members of the College community.”

While a student at St. Joseph’s, Colson was very active in many different organizations including theater productions and the fraternity, Delta Psi Omega; of which he is presently the organization’s moderator.

“Matt has been an asset to the College since his days as an undergraduate student,” said Vice President of Institutional Advancement, Nancy Connors. “At a time when St. Joseph’s College seeks to expand its alumni relations program we are very fortunate to welcome an alumnus who knows the College so well.”

Before coming to St. Joseph’s College, Matthew obtained educational work experience as a counselor at the Port Jefferson School District and the West Islip School District. He has also worked at Long Island University’s Southampton campus as the Assistant Director of Admissions where he created “Get Linked,” a networking program to introduce incoming freshmen to their peers.

Active in the educational community, Colson maintains memberships in the GAPSEMC (Graduate and Professional School Enrollment Management Corporation) and NYSACAC (the New York State Association for College Admission Counseling). He also is a member of Chi Sigma Iota, a counseling academic and professional honor society and the Western Suffolk Counselors Association, where he served as a student representative on the Executive Counsel.

Colson earned a Master of Science in Education from Long Island University, C.W. Post campus and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communication from St. Joseph’s College. He and his wife live in Farmingville with their three daughters.
