Patchogue, NY – March 6, 2006 – St. Joseph’s College will host a Medicare Part D Seminar entitled “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center at the Suffolk campus located in Patchogue, New York. This seminar, led by Dr. John Sardelis, will try to explain this confusing new prescription drug benefit. The event is free and open to the public.
Medicare Part D is a new voluntary prescription drug program designed to provide partial coverage for most prescription drugs. It is the first time that everyone with Medicare, regardless of income, health status, or prescription drug usage, will have access to prescription drug coverage. Different from Medicare-approved drug discount cards and other commonly used coverage for health services under Medicare, this new program was made available under Medicare effective January 1, 2006. Open enrollment runs from November 15, 2005 through May 15, 2006.
At this seminar, attendees will learn more about New York States’ EPIC plan and pending deadlines and their affect on participants. In addition, the seminar will demonstrate the relevance of the program and help participants find out how to enroll, how to decide if they need it , how to sign up and where to seek out assistance in choosing a suitable Medicare drug plan.
Other topics to be discussed include:
- The Good: Learn how to save money on high prescriptions drug costs by enrolling.
- The Bad: Discuss the many complexities surrounding Medicare Part D and why so many participants are confused.
- The Ugly: Find out about penalties for joining after the open enrollment period.
