BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, NY – MARCH 17, 2006 – St. Joseph’s College will present its Esse Non Videri Non-Violence Award to award-winning journalist Antoinette Bosco. The awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 on the College’s Suffolk Campus.
Named after the College’s motto, “To be, not to seem,” the Non-Violence Award is presented annually to individuals who exemplify compassion, social engagement and spirituality in the pursuit of social justice and peace. Past recipients include women’s rights activist Homaira Mamoor, religious commentator Sister Camille, peace activist Sister Mary Fritz, humanitarian and civil rights activist Joop van der Grinten and Dead Man Walking author Sister Helen Prejean.
As an experienced journalist, Antoinette Bosco has written over 200 magazine articles, thousands of newspaper articles and columns and fourteen books. Bosco’s books have won her the Elizabeth Ann Seton Award from St. John’s University, the Distinguished Service Award from the National Council of Catholic Women and the Catholic Press Association’s First Place Award for “popular presentation of the Catholic Faith” for her book, “One Day He Beckoned, One Woman’s Story of the Difference Jesus Made.”
Antoinette Bosco, a single mother of seven children with three children deceased, has been featured in numerous news articles and on several television talk shows, including “Unsolved Mysteries” and “Sightings”. Bosco is the author of “Murder Is Not Entertainment,” an article for Ladies Home Journal focusing on the broadcast of the O.J. Simpson trial. As a human rights activist, Bosco belongs to several human rights groups including Murder Victims’ Families for Human Rights, Amnesty International and Connecticut Network to Abolish the Death Penalty. The Esse Non Videri Non-Violence Award will be given to Antoinette Bosco to exhibit her motivation to triumph over tragedy and to honor her efforts in abolishing the death penalty.
St. Joseph’s College, located at 155 W. Roe Blvd. in Patchogue, will present the Non-Violence Award to Antoinette Bosco at a special ceremony during Common Hour, 12:40 p.m. to 1:40 p.m., in the McGann Conference Center located in O’Connor Hall.
