PATCHOGUE, NY – APRIL 3, 2006 – St. Joseph’s College is proud to announce that undergraduate student Sandy Silverman was rewarded with honorable mention at the Long Island College Art Competition Reception on Friday, March 10, 2006 at Stony Brook University.
The Long Island College Art Competition, sponsored by the Student Activities Center at Stony Brook University, brought in over one hundred pieces of artwork from colleges all over Long Island. Open to all undergraduate students from Nassau and Suffolk County colleges and universities, the competition was judged by two prestigious metropolitan artists, George Adams and Dread Scott. Fourteen Long Island colleges participated in the competition, including C.W. Post, Molloy College, Dowling College, St. Joseph’s College, Stony Brook University, Suffolk Community College, SUNY Old Westbury and Nassau Community College.
The honored student artist, Sandy Silverman, is a Child Study major in her senior year at St. Joseph’s College. Silverman’s wood sculpture, “Leaves,” was created as an assignment for her “Crafts as an Art Form” class and can be viewed at the Student Activities Center Art Gallery at Stony Brook University through April 6, 2006.
