PATCHOGUE, NY – SEPTEMBER 18, 2006 – St. Joseph’s College is proud to announce the induction of its newest sorority, Alpha Theta Rho, a group of young women who have already raised funds and awareness for the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Alpha Theta Rho was established on August 31, 2006 as a sorority on the Patchogue Campus of St. Joseph’s College. Prior to their inauguration, the women of Alpha Theta Rho assisted the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence with their fundraising and community efforts. In July, the newly named sorority held a carwash that raised $350 for the Coalition’s benefit dinner, which took place a month later and raised over $2,000. The group plans to continue assisting the Coalition with many of its future charitable efforts.
“I am honored to be associated with such an inspirational group of women,” expresses Heather Barry, Alpha Theta Rho Moderator and Assistant Professor of History at St. Joseph’s College. “I have found this experience rewarding in so many ways, especially seeing our students work for an amazing cause and show such maturity and concern for others. They are setting an example for their peers and their community.”
Alpha Theta Rho consists of 13 enthusiastic female members and a faculty moderator. The group plans to hold events throughout the year on the Patchogue Campus of St. Joseph’s College to further benefit the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and hope to establish their benefit dinner as an annual fundraising event.
