PATCHOGUE, NY – September 22, 2006 — St. Joseph’s College will host its annual
“Make a Difference Day” event on Saturday, October 21, 2006 from 11:00 a.m. to
2:30 p.m. in the Quad located on the College’s Suffolk campus in Patchogue, New York. This year’s event, which is free and open to the public, is being sponsored by the Students Taking an Active Role in Society (STARS) club.
Every year, St. Joseph’s College hosts its annual Make a Difference Day kids’ carnival for the local community, which includes a haunted house, games and prizes, an obstacle course, arts and crafts, pony rides and refreshments.
STARS, a subsidiary of the Campus Ministry at St. Joseph’s College, is a student group, which sponsors various events on campus with the goal in mind to reach out and give back to the community. The Campus Ministry seeks to instill in the life of the College its core values of integrity, service, social and intellectual responsibility and spiritual values.
Make A Difference Day is the nation’s largest single day of volunteering. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, millions have participated in what has been coined “the most encompassing national day of helping others.”
In 2003, over 3 million people cared enough about their communities to volunteer, accomplishing thousands of projects in hundreds of towns. Last year, there were over 1,000 community members in attendance at the College.
Event is rain or shine. For more information, please contact the Campus Ministry office at (631) 447-2739. St. Joseph’s College is located at 155 W. Roe Blvd. in Patchogue, and is accessible via the South Service Road of Sunrise Highway, just east of Exit 52 (Waverly Avenue).
