BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, NY – September 25, 2006 – St. Joseph’s College will hold its 24th Annual Dinner Dance and Monte Carlo Night on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York. Cocktails begin at 6:00 p.m. and dinner and dancing will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. This year’s business casual affair, which is being co-chaired by S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D., President of St. Joseph’s College, and John R. Bransfield, Jr., President & COO of Roslyn Savings Bank Retired, will honor Dennis McCarthy, Senior Partner of Asset Management Associates of New York, and St. Joseph’s alumna S. Elaine Roulet, C.S.J. ’66, Founder of Providence House. Proceeds from this event will benefit student scholarships. Guests participating in the Monte Carlo will be awarded prizes only; no cash winnings will be given.
Senior partner of Asset Management Associates of New York, a private investment partnership, and president and CEO of Wilcom, Inc., a worldwide manufacturer of telecommunications test equipment and DSL components, Dennis McCarthy has served as an assistant deputy county executive under three Suffolk County executives, and currently sits as a gubernatorial appointee on the Suffolk County Community College Board of Trustees. Elected for three terms as commissioner of the Blue Point Fire Department, he has actively served his community through Little League, Boy Scouts and at Our Lady of Snow R.C. Church in Blue Point, where he has served as trustee and chair of the Catholic Ministry Appeal for over 25 years.
The recipient of many awards, McCarthy was named Man of the Year by both Mercy Center Ministries and the Bayport-Blue Point Foundation; he was also awarded the Toby Beebe Citizenship Award by the Blue Point Lions Club. McCarthy will receive this year’s Distinguished Citizen Award.
S. Elaine Roulet, C.S.J, ’66, a Sister of Saint Joseph, Brentwood, New York, served as full-time minister at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women after 36 years of creating multiple programs to connect incarcerated parents with their children. Recently retired, she currently directs retreats for women leaving prison under a new program she created called “Our Journey.” Over the years, S. Elaine established numerous Providence House residences, which include multiple sites offering shelter for battered women and families, homeless women and temporary housing for women released from prison. In 1992 she founded Hour Children, a multifaceted family service provider established to help provide support to incarcerated women and their children and help ease incarcerated women back into society. In 1993, S. Elaine was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame; she is also the recipient of the Westchester County Hall of Fame Award, among other honors. She is being honored as this year’s Outstanding Alumna.
