St. Joseph’s College Donates Computer Equipment To Community Center
Local College Makes Charitable Donation of 20 Personal Computers

PATCHOGUE, NY – SEPTEMBER 25, 2006 – In an effort to support its mission of outreach to local and global communities through volunteerism and assistance, St. Joseph’s College is pleased to announce its donation of 20 personal computers and coordinating equipment, including monitors, mice and keyboards to the Indochina Sino-American Community Center, Inc. (ISACC) in Chinatown, New York.

Established in 1990 by former refugees from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, ISACC is a non-profit organization established to assist immigrants and refugees integrating and achieving economic self-sufficiency and provides social services and programs to the elderly, which include referral, translation, employment, and counseling. ISACC offers ESL classes, citizenship preparation classes, and the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) to senior citizens ages 55 and over.

“This donation allowed us to upgrade our technology and our services to the community,” explained Peter Cheng, Executive Director of ISACC. “We are very grateful to St. Joseph’s College for their generosity. Presently, we have waiting lists of students interested in attending our computer classes up to five times our capacity.”

After holding a 6-week non-credit QuickBooks accounting software course at ISACC, moderators from St. Joseph’s College found that the computers were not running fast enough for optimal class instruction. At the same time, St. Joseph’s College was updating their own systems, and offered the old equipment to ISAAC, assuring that each and every donated machine was in good, working condition and capable of running the software needed for all of the Center’s classes.

“St. Joseph’s College is proud to be able to support ISAAC for their commitment to the community and continuing education,” said Joseph Spadaro, Chief Information Officer at St. Joseph’s College. “In this case, the Center needed technology that was economical and effective, so we made sure we gave them exactly what they wanted.”
