PATCHOGUE, NY – OCTOBER 31, 2006 – St. Joseph’s college is pleased to welcome International scholar Dr. Martin Potschka of the University of Vienna, Austria to
present the lecture: “Phylogenic Memory: Reflections from the Socio-Psychological and
Biological Sciences” on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 12:40 p.m. in the Shea
Conference Center located on the College’s Suffolk campus in Patchogue, New York.
The event, which is being jointly co-sponsored by the Psychology and Social Sciences
departments, is free and open to the public.
Born in 1955 in Vienna, Austria, Dr. Martin Potschka has been conducting scientific
research since the late 70s, and has served as a visiting professor/scholar and research
scientist at numerous institutions along the way. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees
from the University of Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Potschka has been the recipient of several awards for his scientific research and
scholarly writings, including the Harold Lamport Award of the US Biophysical Society
in 1981, and a Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry,
Göettingen, FRG (Manfred Eigen) in 2000.
His professional affiliations include the US Biophysical Society, German Biophysical
Society, Austrian Chemical Society (GÖCH), American Chemical Society (ACS),
International Society for the Study of European Ideas (ISSEI) and Weiner Gesellschaft
für Interkulturelle Philosophie (WIGIP).
