BROOKLYN, NY, OCTOBER 31, 2006 - St. Joseph's College Council for the Arts will present the Saeko Ichinohe Dance Company and their interpretation of the Tale of Genji on Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at 12:40 p.m. at the Tuohy Hall Auditorium on 245 Clinton Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
Founded by Saeko Ichinohe, a native of Japan and graduate of the Juilliard School, the Ichinohe Dance Company uses the medium of dance to inspire mutual understanding between diverse peoples and cultures. Through the fusion of ancient and contemporary Japanese culture with Western dance forms, this multicultural troupe bridges these unique groups and presents the harmony that exists between East and West. Throughout its creative and educational activities across the U.S. and abroad, the Ichinohe Dance Company has reached out not only to the general public but also to disadvantaged individuals to provide nourishment for the heart, mind, and soul.
Other performance venues in New York have included the Japan Society, Asia Society, Harvard Club, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center and the World Trade Center. Nationally, the company has performed at the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), Orchestra Hall of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Bryn Mawr College, Sarah Lawrence College (Bronxville), University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and University of Montana (Missoula).

Hill, CSJ, J.D., president, the St. Joseph’s College Council for the Arts is a coalition of students, faculty members and staff who serve as a focal point for St. Joseph’s College’s educational and community outreach programming in the arts.
