BROOKLYN - October 2, 2007 - St. Joseph’s Council for the Arts is proud to announce that it will host an art exhibition featuring the works of Brooklyn artists Jane Huntington and David Melrose from October 18 to November 21st in the Alumni Room Gallery, Tuohy Hall, 245 Clinton Avenue. Both of these artists were the winners of the highly contested juried exhibits Brooklynature: In the Gallery, and Brooklynature: In the Garden, respectively, which were held last spring at the College. All events are free and open to the public.
The Council of the Arts will host receptions on Thursday, October 18th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 pm and on Saturday, November 3rd from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In addition, the artists will discuss their work in a gallery talk on Tuesday, October 30 at 12:40 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Monday and Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.. Ms. Huntington’s work has appeared in Vibe, Rolling Stone, Details, Blaze Newsweek, Esquire, Fortune, Money, Entertainment Weekly, New York Magazine among others. Holding degrees from the Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA, the School of Visual Arts in NY, and the Philadelphia College of Art in PA, she has exhibited at the School of Visual Arts and in Serenas, NY. Her work is about desire and ambivalence; intimacy and isolation; observation and reaction; nostalgia and longing; light and space; the love of surface and palette.
Artistically, David Melrose works in a wide array materials and mediums. His most recent endeavors are in photography, and his other assorted works deal with light as an essential element physically and within the art lexicon. His work has been included in shows at the Islip Art Museum, East Islip New York, FCMOCA, Fort Collins Colorado and Yancey Richardson Gallery, Chelsea. His work will also be featured as part of an upcoming exhibition at The UBS Gallery, New York, NY and the Cambridge School of Weston, Weston, MA. David currently lives in Brooklyn and works in Long Island City.
