PATCHOGUE, NY – OCTOBER 22, 2007 – The Clare Rose Playhouse, a community theatre located on the Long Island campus of St. Joseph’s College, will continue its 2007-08 season with Weekend Comedy, a romantic comedy by husband and wife duo Sam and Jeanne Bobrick. The show will run November 2 through November 18, 2007.
Weekend Comedy portrays the generation gap between two couples, one a middle-aged married couple and the other a couple who is young and dating, and the laughs that ensue while unintentionally sharing a cabin on vacation. With quick-witted humor and an obvious attention to detail, the characters develop and expand right before your eyes.
Sam and Jeanne Bobrick, the husband and wife team that wrote Weekend Comedy, come from experience. Not only are they married, which in itself is research for their craft, but Sam has written for many comedic television shows, including Get Smart and The Andy Griffith Show. Together, they have written Sheldon and Mrs. Levine and the one-man comedy Lenny’s Back, which chronicles the life of Lenny Bruce, the controversial American stand-up comedian, writer, social critic and satirist of the 1950s and 1960s. Introduced in 1985, Weekend Comedy has been successful throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Individual tickets for Weekend Comedy are priced at $14; $12 for students and seniors. Show times are 8:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3:00 p.m. on Sundays. For reservations or further information, please call the box office at (631) 654-0199.
The Clare Rose Playhouse, which serves as a major teaching facility for the College’s theatre courses, is accessible via the South Service Road of Sunrise Highway, just east of Exit 52 (Waverly Avenue) in Patchogue, on the northeast corner of the campus of St. Joseph’s College. A former cottage converted in 1985 through the generosity and guidance of the man for whom it is named, the Playhouse serves as a major teaching facility for the college’s theater courses and is a training ground for young actors. The Playhouse is the site of community theater productions of musicals, dramas, comedies, cabaret acts, musical performances, dance troupes and comedians.
