January 21, 2005, Brooklyn, NY – On Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 11:00 AM, St. Joseph's Student Ambassador Club will host a Trivia Challenge for High School seniors. Taking place on the college’s Brooklyn campus, the contest seeks to recognize the academic achievement of High School seniors from New York State.
The St. Joseph’s College Student Ambassador Club is a prestigious group of outstanding, high-energy students who act in conjunction with the Admissions Office to promote St. Joseph’s College through a variety of campus events and community leadership. Student Ambassador activities include New Student Luncheons, campus tours and calling prospective students to answer questions about St. Joseph’s. The Club not only introduces students to the Admissions process and profession but also teaches valuable interpersonal communication skills.
“The Trivia Challenge is a fun and exciting way for St. Joseph's Student Ambassador Club to reach out to high school students in the community,” said Theresa LaRocca Meyer, Director of Admissions on St. Joseph's Brooklyn Campus. “The program provides us with a platform to recognize the academic achievements of High School students while giving them an opportunity to be introduced to St. Joseph's College.”
In order to participate in the Challenge, contestants must have a cumulative average of at least 85 and a combined SAT score of 1000. To date, approximately fifteen to twenty students from high schools including Bishop Kearney, St. Joseph's, Long Island City, Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn Technical, Franklin K. Lane, St. Johnsville, Midwood and the Waldorf School will take part in the Challenge. All participants will receive prizes in acknowledgment of their achievements. In addition, cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners.
In addition to high school students, the Student Ambassadors have invited government officials, educators and business leaders to participate in the Challenge by either sponsoring the event or attending as audience members. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact sjcnytriviachallenge@yahoo.com.
