St. Joseph’s College Announces First Ever Online Degree
B.S. Degree in Organizational Management is Pioneer Program for College

Brooklyn and Patchogue, NY – July 5, 2005 – St. Joseph’s College today announced it is offering its students the college’s first ever degree program whose criteria can be met entirely through online coursework. The Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management through the Online Degree Program (OMOP) is a flexible degree that builds upon an individual’s prior learning and experience. OMOP is ideal for working adults with busy or variable schedules or those students who are unable to attend classes at the Suffolk or Brooklyn campuses.

Designed to foster career and educational advancement, the B.S. in Organizational Management provides working adults with knowledge and skills pertaining to management, organizational behavior, and human resources for the purposes of promoting managerial effectiveness and the enhancement of human performance in organizations.

Applicants wishing to pursue a B.S. degree in OMOP will typically be adults with post–secondary education and training, who are employed in full–time positions. Prospective students should have substantial work experience involving supervision, program development, specialized training, considerable responsibility and/or independent judgment.

Online classes will involve reading, completing assignments/projects and taking examinations, all of which can be done through the universally recognized Blackboard software system that supports the courses. Through Blackboard, students participate in regular online discussion groups that focus on the material being covered. The interactive experience extends to both the faculty and other students in the class. Every online class is asynchronous, meaning students participate whenever it is convenient for them.

A valuable feature of the St. Joseph’s OMOP is the e-portfolio, where students will able be collect samples of work completed through the course of the program and post it to an electronic portfolio contained within the Blackboard system. This establishes a portfolio that documents the individual’s academic development.

The technology required for the OMOP does not differ from capabilities of the typical home PC: · Access to a PC with Windows 95 or higher operating system with at least a 28.8k baud modem. (A 56k baud modem is recommended)
· Must have access to an Internet connection.
· Microsoft's Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher or Netscape's Navigator 4.0 or higher.
· Microsoft Word (preferred) and Powerpoint or Microsoft Works.
· Must use your St. Joseph’s College email account.
