Brooklyn and Patchogue, NY – July 13, 2005: St. Joseph’s College announced a new Master’s of Science degree with a major in Nursing designed as a part-time program for registered nurses who seek graduate preparation in nursing. Two concentrations for in-demand fields, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Health and Nursing Education, will be available beginning in the Fall of 2005. Program applicants are required to have a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing from an accredited institution.
The new graduate program, which consists of core and specialty concentrations, was designed with the busy professional in mind. Designed for part-time study, the criteria for this degree can be completed with only one day of classes per week in just seven semesters in the Fall and Spring (additional hours are required for clinical/practicum courses) and one Summer.
Building on the knowledge base and practice competencies of the baccalaureate-prepared R.N., coursework for the Master’s degree prepares graduates for advanced professional practice in their field. Program competencies and outcomes have been developed to encompass standards promulgated by the American Nurses Association, the National League for Nursing, The American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
Graduates of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Adult Health concentration (38 credits) will be prepared to actualize the multi-faceted role of the CNS in a variety of health care settings reflecting the three spheres of patient care, leadership/management, and staff and patient education. Graduates of the Nursing Education concentration (37 credits) will be prepared for nurse educator positions in either academic or service settings or in patient education.
Offering small classes, convenient scheduling, and one-on-one attention from expert faculty at both the Brooklyn and Suffolk campuses, St. Joseph’s also offers an already established NLNAC accredited B.S degree with a major in Nursing (R.N. required) exclusively for registered nurses.
St. Joseph’s College will be hosting Information Sessions for prospective students on both campuses in July.
