Schery Markee Sullivan, an alumna of St. Joseph’s College, began her formal training studying with abstract painter Robert Kaupelis at New York University. Her watercolors are defined by a dynamic expression of color, line and vibrant energy. Ranging in scope from elegant florals to intricate mask collages, to abstracts and primitive creature pieces or powerful figurative paintings, her work is a diverse spectrum of creative force.

This exhibit focuses on the artist’s Mother and Child series, her evocative depiction of the most profound human bond. The second half of the exhibit will feature Markee Sullivan’s works that she created in three phases in the wake of 9/11 and the four years following.

The title for the exhibition, “Sea of Light, Pool of Glass,” comes from a poem by the artist that will be featured in the exhibit. It begins with the lines “Love is a river, a mirror, a cliff, a path; love is a sea of light, a pool of glass.”

Markee Sullivan’s work has been exhibited throughout the New York area and has been the subject of several solo shows. It has been sold at the Nassau County Museum of Art Bookstore and to the Port Authority among others. Also, her work is the subject of a line of greeting cards produced by Kenzig cards, and was also included in McGaw Graphic’s Art 2004 catalogue and the Tribeca Works Catalogue, 2004 and 2005.
