- As part of its 2005-06 cultural performance series, the St Joseph’s College Council for the Arts will feature renowned New York musicians the Jade String Trio. The performance will take place at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2005 in the D’Ecclesiis Auditorium located in O’Connor Hall on the College’s Suffolk Campus. The event is open to the general public and a $5 minimum donation is suggested.
Formed in 1999 by three highly accomplished Chinese-American women, the Jade String Trio has established itself on the concert stage and in the educational world as a leader in its genre. Audiences and critics alike have hailed the Trio’s artistry for its wide-ranging repertoire, which embraces the beloved masterpieces of Western classical music, contemporary works and Chinese fold and classical music exquisitely arranged for violin, viola and cello.
Based in New York City, the Trio has performed widely in the New York metropolitan area including appearances at Bargemusic and the Cutting Edge Music Series. It has captivated audiences at the Donnell Library, Rockefeller and Drew Universities and was featured on WNYC-FM’s Live Segment with John Schafer and at the United Nations Disarmament Talks. In addition to concert appearances, the Jade String Trio is in demand for their educational workshops and performances.
The Council for the Arts at St. Joseph’s College, New York is a group of volunteers from the College and the surrounding communities who seek to foster and encourage an appreciation and enjoyment of the fine and performing arts. The ultimate goal of the group is to develop in the students of St. Joseph’s College and in the larger community an enduring love of the arts, which will encourage their active involvement, either as participants or as informed spectators.
