Recreation and Leisure Studies

Special note

On behalf of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, we would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to the entire SJC community for their contribution and support in regard to our department achieving its highest recognition, the National Academic Accreditation through the Council on Accreditation for Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT).

About us

Community and therapeutic recreation are two of the fastest growing professions in the nation and St. Joseph's College is one of only two colleges in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island to offer this degree.

The recreation major features tracks in both leisure services management and therapeutic recreation. Therapeutic graduates pursue careers as recreation therapists in health care and social service agencies and many recreation graduates have found positions before graduating.

The program also provides the philosophy, psychology, sociology and professional enrichment necessary to enhance both clinical and administrative skills in recreation.
