From Greenlight Bookstore:

Author Gilbert Sorrentino (April 27, 1929-May 18, 2006) grew up in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Brooklyn, and returned there after a distinguished career in academia and the arts, where he pushed structural and stylistic boundaries with his fiction and poetry. His honors included two Guggenheim Fellowships in Fiction, the John Dos Passos Prize for Literature, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award for Literature, and the Lannan Lifetime Achievement Award, and his influence continues to be felt among contemporary writers. Several distinguished authors with ties to Brooklyn gather to celebrate Sorrentino’s birthday with a reading and discussion of his work, including Mark Chiusano (Marine Park), Joshua Cohen (A Heaven of Others), Don DeLillo (White Noise, Underworld, etc.), Sam Lipsyte (The Fun Parts), Gilbert Sorrentino’s son Christopher Sorrentino (Trance), and journalist James Walcott, cultural critic of Vanity Fair. The program is hosted by Doubleday executive editor Gerald Howard, a fellow Bay Ridge Brooklynite and a friend and fan of Sorrentino. The program will be followed by birthday refreshments; books by Sorrentino and the featured authors are for sale. A Gilbert Sorrentino guided walking tour of Bay Ridge is planned for Sunday, May 3; details to be announced, but pizza will be involved.

Free and open to the public. Click here to RSVP.
