SJC Announces 25th Annual Golf Classic

BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – May 11, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) will hold its 25th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, June 8 at the Plandome Country Club in Plandome, New York. The 2015 honoree is Stephen Somers ’82 of Vigon International, Inc. All proceeds from this event will support the College’s athletic programs.

A current SJC board of trustee, Stephen Somers is the owner and president of Vigon International, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-quality flavor and fragrance ingredients based in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. For six years, Vigon International has been ranked as one of Inc. 5000’s fastest-growing companies, and was selected as one of the best companies to work for in Pennsylvania for the past four years.

“St. Joseph's College Department of Athletics is pleased to honor Mr. Stephen Somers for the 2015 Golf Classic,” said Shantey Hill, assistant vice president and senior director in the Department of Athletics at SJC. “Mr. Somers is the epitome of what hard work, dedication and talent can produce, and we are fortunate to have him serve as a role model to our current student-athletes as well as an ambassador for St. Joseph's College.”

As an avid supporter of local charities, Somers has provided financial incentives for the Hackettstown High School honors program and served as a member of the financial board at Cathedral Prep Seminary in Queens, New York, where he supported the construction of a new science laboratory and sponsors an annual scholarship in his father’s name. Somers studied organic chemistry at SJC and holds a master’s degree in analytical chemistry from St. John’s University.
