February 05, 2019 BK

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – January 29, 2019 - The Department of Physical Sciences at St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with the New York Section of the American Chemical Society, is pleased to announce its 23rd Annual High School Poster Session. This event will take place on Saturday, February 9 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium at SJC Brooklyn.

Research projects undertaken by young minds in the five boroughs will be showcased. Judges from both academia and the private sector will evaluate the posters and the research, and four students will be selected as winners.

“This event provides students with the opportunity to showcase their research and have it evaluated by faculty in a supportive and fostering environment,” said Michael Hanophy, Ph.D., interim executive dean and professor of biology at SJC Brooklyn. “This event serves as an inspiring glimpse into the future, where one can see the spirit of inquiry and passion come alive in the next generation of researchers, scientists and scholars.”

Adam Braunschweig, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry at the Nanoscience Initiative at CUNY Advanced Science Research Center, will present the keynote lecture, “4D Nanoscale Printing.” Dr. Braunschweig’s group leverages organic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and material science to address pressing medical, environmental and electronic challenges. Specific projects involve the development of organic photovoltaics, the preparation of synthetic carbohydrate receptors and 4D printing.
