SJC Council for the Arts Presents “Suffolk to Segovia”

PATCHOGUE, NY MARCH 30, 2009 The Council for the Arts at St. Josephs College is proud to present "Suffolk to Segovia, a celebration of Latin American music and instruments. The performance will take place on April 16, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. in the DEcclesiis Auditorium on the Colleges Long Island Campus.

The repertoire will focus on percussion instruments with a Latin American heritage and be performed by St. Josephs College professor of Latin American music, Andrea Pryor de Manrique and fellow percussionist Ingrid Gordon. The instruments that will be showcased include the Cuban congas and sartenes, tom toms, bongos and temple blocks.

Andrea Pryor de Manrique has performed on Broadway for The Lion King and at the legendary Casa de la Trova in Santiago, Cuba. She holds a Master of Arts degree in music from the University of Illinois in Urbana. Ingrid Gordon has performed at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall and as a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She holds a Doctor of Music Arts degree from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts degree in music from Northwestern University.
